The KW17.5 Winch is ideal for large 4x4 trucks and heavy-duty trailing applications. Built with a 6.0 HP series wound 12v DC motor, 4-Way roller fairlead and full-load holding break to ensure safe operation. The life and turn free-spool clutch makes connections quick and easy to get users back on the road. As standard equipment on all KW Series winches, the wireless remote allows users the freedom to position themselves in the best spot during recovery.

We DO NOT have a cradle for a KW17.5 winch. Most 2” Receiver Hitch Mounts are NOT rated to pull 17.5 lbs.

The original Cable size on the KW7.5/KW75122RM winch is 72’ x 5/16” and the KVA10041S synthetic rope is 100’ x 3/8”.  Cut about 25 – 28 feet from the synthetic rope to convert. No Hawse Fairlead available for the KW7.5/KW75122RM

KWR16001 Replacement Winch Motor Brush Set for KW

• Red small wire to large center post with large Red Cable is the power wire to the handheld controller or wireless receiver plug, and the large Red Cable is coming from the battery.
• Two black wires to the center small post would be ground
• The white (left hand small post) and the blue (right hand small post) are energized with positive to either retract or extend the winch.

Questions and Diagnose Tools:

Issue: When the battery is fully charged, but is not pulling the capacity. Troubleshoot and things to try in hopes of diagnosing the winch issue. 

• The winch is running both directions,  powering-out and powering-in
• Winch is only running at less than 1’ line take up per minute, with NO Load
• Winch motor sounds very labored, like there is a load on the cable, but cable is free and not connected to any load.
• Customer noted it is very hard to pull cable off winch in the free spool mode, with clutch lever disengaged at gear box.

Trying these steps.

1. Removing the in-line circuit breaker and trying the winch again, possible one of the in-line 50 amp breakers went bad.
2. Power the winch in and out for 20 feet, and then feel the winch motor with bare hand to see if the motor got hot, especially the end of the motor where the motor brushes are located.
3. Lift the clutch lever to disengage the gearbox from the motor, try running the winch motor again and listen to see if the motor still has that sound like it is laboring or underload. 

Issue: Winch would run for a split second and shut off, using the wired remote with the light in the end.  When the winch stopped the light also went off, so that kind of tells you the issue is not in the winch motor or solenoid because the power would have still kept the light on. 

Ask: Where the circuit breaker was located on the power cables coming from the battery, If used their own cables and do not have our circuit breaker inline.  Explain that somewhere in their wiring from the battery to the winch the power is turning off because of the amperage the winch requires, after the cables/circuit cools down it allows the power to come back on.  

Issue: Does the winch/solenoid ONLY click when trying to power out?  (Could be if powering IN if the symptom was the revere direction)? 

1. If the solenoid ONLY clicks in one direction and works perfect in the other direction, issue could be the solenoid need replacement.
2. If the solenoid only clicks in both directions, double check ALL wire and cable connections.
3. Double check the Battery is fully charged and has 12 volts and the amperage in the battery to power the winch.

Second diagnosing process to confirm if the solenoid needs replacement

1. 1. Change the White and Blue wire on the solenoid, (BE VERY CAREFULL) this will reverse the winch’s direction.  OUT will now be coming IN and IN will now be going OUT.  But this will confirm if the solenoid has a one directional pole/contact failure.
