Keeper does not offer a dash mounted Momentary Rocker Switch for the KU3.5 and cannot make a recommendation of the “Double Throw Momentary Rocker Switch” needed. Using a toggle switch would be dangerous because the power would not stop the winch direction automatically when you release the Toggle Switch.
Wireless remote trouble shooting:
Make sure remote and receiver stickers have matching numbers that prove they are a matching pair.
The next step would be to check the electrical connections in the winch.
To do this, disconnect the winch from the power source and then remove the 4 screws that hold the on the winch cover.
Then gently lift the cover up and over to the side so the connections can be seen – note that the cover won’t be able to move very far as the wires will still be connected to the plug that is part of the cover.
Make sure the red wire is connected to the positive terminal and the black wire is connected to the negative terminal.
There are only supposed to be 4 wires in setup, see wiring photo showing how the wiring should look.
Please take a look at the wire pointed out in the attached picture. If you find a loose or bad connection that you can fix, then the wireless remotes will work.
If you cannot see an issue with that wire, a replacement wire harness may be needed. (Short Harness Socket # KWR17036)
Replacing the wire harness and connecting the new harness as shown in the wire diagram should allow your winch to function with the wireless remotes and have your light on your wired remote work.
When following the attached instructions, did the light (C) on the wireless remote come on when you held both buttons (A & B) for 5 seconds?
It should stay on after releasing those buttons.
And, when that light is on, does the light flicker when pressing buttons A or B?
The KWR17036 Short Harness is a replacement for KW, KV and KU winch. On the KU winches Red Wire between Blue and White Wire does not get used and it can be cut off or capped with a wire nut (See Image Below). Only the Red Wire between Black and Blue is used.
